The Bride and Groom: Caitlin and Jonathan were extremely easy to get along with, and a lot of fun to be around. They both had a great sense of humor, which is something we love in our clients! We know first hand that the day of the wedding can be chaotic and stressful, so when the bride and groom have a sense of humor, it lets us know that we can be even more relaxed, and makes the day a little less stressful for everyone! And let's face it, we LOVE being able to crack joke with our clients without getting awkward stares! They were so cute with each other, making each other laugh and catching them with that look in their eyes for one another was really something special.
The Venue: We traveled to Ft. Walton Beach, FL where a beautiful little waterfront venue called WaterVue resided. With a porch that wrapped around outside, there were plenty of places to capture a breathtaking view of the water and surrounding life. As you walk through the front doors, the arched hallway is lit with dozens of twinkle lights that scream romance. In the center of the venue sat a bar surrounded by plenty of window light and space for dancing and mingling. There are doors to the left that lead out to a relatively spacious porch where the couple had their ceremony overlooking the water. It really was a charming little venue!
The Decor: To point out the obvious, flowers make for beautiful wedding decor... but this wedding had Succulents! Her mom had planted and grew different kinds of Succulent plants which she placed into cigar boxes as centerpieces for the wedding! How cool is that?! I even got to take one home! She told me how to care for it and what to do if I decided to repot them. It was hands down the coolest souvenir I have obtained from a wedding we've shot! Succulents were also wrapped delicately around the cake, which is something I haven't seen before. As a matter of fact, this is the first wedding we've shot that used Succulents as decor, and I absolutely loved it!
The Cake: One of the most anticipated moments of a wedding is the cutting of the cake. What makes that moment even better is how they cut it...or what they use to cut it with, rather! This particular couple used a sword, which I find awesome and hilarious at the same time! Being the second wedding we've had where the bride and groom use a sword, it has easily become my favorite way for a cake to be cut!
Hildy: Just to prove how cool these people truly are, Jonathan has a vintage cherry red Mercedes that he had since he was a Senior in high school. He had been working on it, or, Hildy I should say, for months so that way they could drive off into the night together as husband and wife. We thought it was completely bad-ass, and it was pretty obvious that pictures with Hildy were going to happen!
Pier Closed: We made our way to a nearby park to take some intimate photos of Caitlin and Jonathan. Located in the park as a pier, which was blocked with wooden slabs and had a sign nailed to them clearly stating that the pier was closed... but of course that didn't stop us from (carefully) sneaking in to capture some breathtaking photos of the newlyweds at sunset! Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do to get those awesome shots!
The End: As the dance floor emptied and guests started making their way out the doors, we too started saying our goodbyes and wished the couple well. Even though the thought of getting off of our feet after a long day of shooting is relieving, there's always a little sadness in wrapping up such a beautiful day with our wedding couples!
